In order to function effectively during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to ensure that people remain safe and well, emergency legislation has been introduced to change the Mental Health Act.

  • The number of doctors required to detain you under the Mental Health Act for assessment and treatment
  • How long you can be remanded to hospital for
  • Court orders for the detention of accused or convicted persons in hospital
  • Emergency detention of voluntary patients already in hospital
  • Transfer of prisoners to hospital
  • Continuation of treatment
  • Police holding powers
