This is a useful starting point when getting your head around what the STP is and how you can get involved.
For those who cannot download the document the entire letter is in verbatim below:
Developing a Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy for the whole of Devon
As you may be aware, health and social care organisations across Wider Devon (including Torbay and Plymouth) have drawn-up a Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP) for the county. The STP sets out our plans for the next five years to deliver high quality, responsive services while meeting our financial targets.
We have worked hard to ensure that mental health is one of the seven core priorities identified within the STP. This is good news for people who use services and their families and supporters, as well as those organisations involved in delivering a wide range of services for people with mental health needs.
Never before has mental health had such a high profile, both locally and nationally. We want to use this opportunity to produce a mental health and wellbeing strategy for people of all ages, across the whole of Devon – something that has never been done before.
We plan to set out what is currently working well, what needs further work and to describe what great mental health services for the people of Devon would look and feel like in five years’ time. We also want to use the strategy to address some of the broader social challenges, like raising awareness and understanding, ‘busting’ myths and tackling the stigma that too often accompanies mental ill health.
We have formed a Mental Health Engagement Panel to act as a small reference group to take this work forward. The Panel includes people with lived experience and representatives from organisations that support people with mental health needs and their families and carers.
Over the next few months we will write a draft strategy, but we need to be confident that it identifies the priorities and issues that people across the county feel are most important – so we need to hear your views. We expect to engage with people about the draft strategy towards the end of the year, with a view to finalising it early next year.
This is a real opportunity for anyone who feels passionately about providing better support for people in Devon with mental health needs. We would be delighted if you could get involved. Thank you.
